Google has put together a stunning interactive Doodle to commemorate the opening of the Tokyo Olympics: the game, which is now available, mix 8-bit RPG with different Olympic events. And it can be played perfectly on mobile.
The great appointments and ephemeris usually have a commemoration in the form of a Google Doodle, a change in the search engine’s cover that usually adapts its logo to the theme being celebrated. It is usually an image, sometimes an animation as well. And, on very rare occasions, Google develops a game that you can enjoy just by going to its search page. The Pac-Man or Halloween are two of the most mythical, but they have been surpassed: the Doodle of the Olympic Games is a true marvel.
Japanese culture, anime, 8-bit RPG and seven Olympic disciplines
The control of the game is the usual one of the elaborate Doodles: the keyboard and the mouse can be used if it is played from the desktop, although it is on the smartphone screen where it is best used. Touch control contributes to this: in the game at hand, the left part of the screen is used to control our character; the right part is the action button.
The story behind the Olympic Games Doodle is set in medieval Japan in true classic RPG style. Similar in cut to an original Zelda or Final Fantasy, the Doodle loads directly from the browser to offer not only exploration, dialogue and Japanese mythology, it also has sports where you can give it your all by beating your opponents.
Our protagonist (the cat Lucky) will land on the island of the Olympic Games and must defeat seven opponents in those seven respective sports (table tennis, skateboarding, archery, rugby, synchronized swimming, climbing and marathon). For it the evidence will have to be located on the island by exploring it in the purest 8-bit RPG style, graphics included.
Talking with the characters that roam the island is essential, also moving around the entire available area. And practicing sports is not exempt from experience, that there are seven tests to play. What’s more, we can choose a side that currently competes worldwide: blue, red, green or yellow. Google colors, wow.
Doodle Champion Island Games, this is the name of the Google game that is available from today.
