When the ecosystem of watches promoted by Google seemed quite static and being assaulted by different sides with proprietary proposals from other brands, Samsung released the news that the merger of Tizen with Google’s Wear OS was beginning. The announcement was accompanied by the promise of more future information in this regard and in the framework of the MWC of 2021 this June the firm has yielded more data.
In this case, Samsung has decided to start the house on the roof almost literally because the first official information we have in this regard comes from the proprietary layer that will cover this fusion. The mix between Tizen and Wear OS will have above a layer that inherits the layer name from Samsung and is called Samsung One UI Watch.
More integrated, more customizable and with direct plugins from Google Play
With Samsung One UI 3.1 on the street and already working on the next version that will operate on Android 12, the Korean firm moves its interface to the family watches with the new One UI Watch. With this One UI Watch, Samsung takes its interface to the top of the future operating system and does it respecting the design lines that we already knew from Tizen, and also resembling the design of his cape in the rest of the android ecosystem.
To unlock the full potential of these wearable devices, we are leveraging our long legacy of mobile innovations and our partnerships with trusted industry leaders who have grown with us in our open ecosystem. “- Patrick Chomet, Executive Vice President of Customer Experience, Samsung
As we have said, One UI Watch inherits the design lines of the Tizen that currently runs through the veins of the wearables from Samsung to go one step further and cover an operating system that we still do not know, the one that will emerge from the mix of Tizen itself and Google’s Wear OS. In principle, it seems that the new Samsung One UI Watch will run on a future Galaxy Watch 4 that will be presented later But it is not ruled out that the Samsung watch ecosystem will become homogeneous with future updates.
With the new One UI Watch come graphical improvements such as the customization of the clock app that will allow the time of different parts of the world to be displayed and that will replicate the behavior of the clock app for mobiles. The watch will also “send” on the mobile phone in the sense that if we block calls or messages from the watch, said blocking will be transferred to the phone.
The platform will allow greater integration with third-party apps that can be downloaded directly from Google Play to the Galaxy Watch, and that includes improvements and more integration of apps with both mobile weight such as Strava, Adidas Running, Spotify, Caim or Youtube Music. And of course, we will have a browser on the watch that will connect directly to Google Maps.
But in addition to the apps themselves, the new One UI Watch will allow a new tool to create custom watch faces to land. It will be available to Android developers and this will allow you to create a large collection to customize these watches. Samsung confirms that The future Galaxy Watch 4 will be the first to release One UI Watch. It is hoped that it will also be the first to put into circulation the operating system, a product of the alliance between Samsung and Google.
